Why I decided to work at Capacities
I’m Beth, I work in Content and Marketing at Capacities. I’ve actually been using Capacities since November 2022. I didn’t think I’d stay long because it was a bit buggy and lacked some features I thought I desperately needed. All of that became irrelevant within minutes of actually getting to know the app. It just works the way my brain does, and in the last 18 months the app has been constantly open on my laptop.
I started making content under my brand name ‘PKM Beth’ in December 2022, just so that I could talk about Capacities. I launched a course with Keep Productive about it in May 2023 and then Steffen reached out to offer me some work. Obviously the answer was yes.
The reason for this was simple: the second the work day is over, I want to open Capacities to take notes. It’s my favourite place to be on my computer. More broadly, I believe Capacities is building the future of personal knowledge management. I still see myself as user-first rather than employee-first and it is refreshing to use a tool that is built for me, not built to work for teams.
Seeing the behind-the-scenes decision making has only proved that statement more true. Every single feature gets so much thought and evaluation before being built. The logic behind it all just clicks with me. All of this rests on three fundamental pillars: networked note-taking, object-based note-taking and time-based note-taking. It turns out that was what I was looking for the whole time I was taking notes, I just didn’t know it. But now I do.
So given I believe in the message, the methods, and the team, I jumped at the chance to be a part of it. Now I’m a full-time team member. I bring my enthusiasm for the product to work every day, and make content that shows people what Capacities can do for their digital lives. I want to make PKM accessible and fun for all, so I try to bring that into our content.
I’m clearly biased, but it is the best job ever!
