In the second release of 2025 we have some exciting new features and improvements.
A better PDF viewer for performance and usability
Reading scientific papers.
We’ve completely rewritten the PDF viewer with performance and usability in mind. It should now render pages much faster and be more responsive and smooth, even for large PDFs. Moreover, we’ve added better support for zooming in and out. Page number and zoom level are now reliably persisted and restored when you open a PDF.
Example of a large PDF with 433 pages.
Scans of old books with many illustrations.
We are in the process of adding more options to view PDFs to your liking as well as adding a mini outline to quickly navigate large documents. In one of the next updates we will also add fit-to-width mode and arrow navigation to switch between pages.
New AI editor to interact with your content
Our new AI editor allows you to interact with your content directly without the chat interface. You can select words, paragraphs, or multiple blocks and ask questions about them. The AI can help you explain things, answer questions, look up words, or help you improve your writing.
If you have gotten the result you want, you can either replace the current selection with the result, append the answer below the current selection, or simply close the AI editor.
There are several built-in commands for common actions, such as ‘Explain this’, ‘Rewrite for…’, ‘Translate to…’, ‘Look up word’, and more.
Unified data view headers for collections, tags, objects, and queries
We reworked the header section of the object dashboard, collections, tag pages, query pages, and all embeds. It gives the header section a more consistent look. It is now possible to hide the details and settings of a view by clicking on the ‘Hide details’ button in the center of the header. Details can be shown again by clicking on the ‘Show details’ button.
The new header design is fully responsive and adapts to different screen sizes. When there are too many items in the header, they automatically wrap to the next line for better readability. On the database dashboard, tabs are shown when there is sufficient space available, but they collapse into a dropdown menu when space is limited.
Calendar integrations are in beta for Capacities Believer
We are finally releasing a beta version of the calendar integrations. 🥳 All Capacities Believer can test them now. You can read more about Calendar Integrations in our documentation.
📆 If everything goes as planned, Calendar Integrations will be release to Capacities Pro in March.
It would be great if you could report all issues on our feedback board.

Great video by YouTuber Wesley Anna
YouTuber Wesley Anna has created a great video about Capacities. In this video, Wesley talks about how Capacities blends the best features of Notion and Obsidian into a more intuitive and flexible note-taking experience. She explains how the object-based approach allows for natural, organic organization without the overwhelming structure of traditional tools. It’s a must-watch!
Check out our new team page
We’ve added a new team page to our website with information about the people behind Capacities. You can learn more about our team and how we work together to build Capacities.
Other Improvements and Fixes
Outline of your content in our PDF, Word, and Markdown exports
We’ve added an outline option to your content in our PDF, Word, and Markdown exports. This is helpful when exporting large documents. It will give you an outline with all headings and subheadings and gives you a quick overview of the structure of your document.
Three new languages
We added three new experimental languages to the app: English (UK), Portuguese (Brazil), and Dutch.
✨ Improvements
- The styling (bold, italic, etc.) of table cells that have formatting applied (e.g. currencies) is now being rendered as well. Ticket
- We reworked large parts of the content loading on startup for offline support. It should be faster now.
- Most queries and data views are now locally computed and will load after the device is offline. If you experience any issues around queries or other data views, let us know.
- The ‘Tab’ or ‘Shift + Tab’ key can now be used to navigate through submenus. Ticket
- We’ve improved the robustness of media loading. This should also fix some issues related to loading media on Android. Ticket
- When new cells are created in tables, the text alignment of the preceding cell is also applied. Ticket
- The ‘/template’ command now displays all available templates. Ticket
- The number formatting in tables has been improved by trying to extract more information from the text.
- The search in all our menus (e.g. ‘@’, ‘/’ or ‘+’) now ignores diacritics (accents). This should improve the search functionality and provide more relevant results. Ticket.
🐛 Fixes
- The ‘<’, ‘<=’, ‘>’ and ‘>=’ symbols can now be used in the math block and are displayed correctly. Ticket
- The selection of items using the ‘tab’ key in the ‘collections’ or ‘tag’ menu of a page has been deactivated in order to avoid interrupting the navigation flow.
- The possibility to create multiple daily notes via the ‘create from template’ option in the database has been removed.
- The settings of templates (e.g. default and order) are now consistently persisted and applied. Ticket
- The shortcut to copy a block reference now also works without an active block selection. Ticket
- Blocks can be duplicated with ‘Ctrl+D’ / ‘⌘+D’ even if there is no active block selection (e.g. while typing).
- Embed view of tags - bugs with MAC and iPhone APP Ticket
- The sorting of columns in tables has been fixed in Firefox. Ticket
- Certain preferences were not persisted (e.g. ‘hide application menu’ on Windows). This has now been fixed. Ticket
- The selection in the object picker of a multi-select with fixed set has been improved. Firstly, the search in the ‘Select from all’ submenu works again and secondly, the search is carried over from the previous menu. Ticket
- Cells in tables that contain number formatting are now displayed again in the export. Ticket
- Tags added to text in Whatsapp or Telegram do not transform automatically. Ticket
- Weblink title is gone if the app can’t auto-fill the title from URL info. Ticket
- Adjust week number when user has startWeekOnSundays set. Ticket
- The shortcut for copying block references has now also been activated in the free tier. Ticket
- The order of the entries in the ‘/’ and ‘+’ menu has been improved. Ticket
- The create option in the collection selection menu is now always displayed. Ticket
- A compatibility issue has caused our mobile app not to work on devices running iOS < 15.5. This has now been fixed. Ticket
- All media objects should now be available again on Android devices. This includes both the ability to display these objects (e.g. images, PDFs, audios & files) as well as the offline loading. Ticket
- If a number formatting is selected in the cell of a table, but the content is not a number (but e.g. text), the formatting is deactivated and the normal content is displayed. Ticket.
- It is no longer possible to enter infinitely long first or last names. They are now limited to a maximum of 50 characters each.
- The button to remove the value of the ‘Created at’ and ‘Last updated at’ property is no longer displayed. Ticket.
- If a new object without a title is created in the ‘+’ or ‘/’ menu, it is now automatically opened again and the title is selected to reduce friction.
- Sharing issues when sharing new object types. If your shared objects could not be loaded by others you need to unshare them and share them again.
