Capacities Calendar integrations are now in Capacities Pro

It’s time for your calendar to meet Capacities! Our Google and Outlook Calendar integrations have just dropped for Capacities Pro! 🚀

The Capacities calendar integrations give you the easiest way to have an overview of your events every day and to take notes from events in your calendar. You can create objects from events, and events from objects. The event information automatically syncs between your calendar and Capacities. 🔄

Performance Improvements

A lot of feedback we receive from our community is about performance. For this release, we’ve worked on many performance improvements throughout the app.

Performance improvements

Editor performance improvements

First and foremost, we’ve made substantial performance improvements to the editor and rendering. Working with large documents should now be much smoother. This should include overall typing speed, using large documents, and certain block operations.

Working with simple tables should be much faster now!

Another complaint we had from users is about working with simple tables. We’ve made substantial improvements here as well. Editing, resizing, and typing in simple tables should now be much faster.

Backlink and tag page performance improvements

We added further performance improvements around backlinks and tag pages. They include a completely new system for how we compute links, backlinks, and tag pages. Your dashboards and embedded data views should feel much more responsive now.

Our second team offsite in Freiburg

Earlier this month, we held our second-ever team offsite, once again in Freiburg in southern Germany. It was a great opportunity to get to know each other better and to work on exciting things around Capacities. We also had a lot of fun!

Other Improvements and Fixes

But that’s not all! We would also like to share a suite of smaller improvements and fixes that should make your daily experience with Capacities more pleasant.

Usability and quality of life improvements

  • We’ve introduced the ability to apply templates directly via the ‘@’, ‘/’, or ‘+’ menu. Simply search for ‘Apply [template name]’ and select the appropriate option.

  • Empty objects are now deleted automatically! Objects that have backlinks are ignored to prevent the deletion of objects that are still in use.

Empty objects are now deleted automatically

  • It is now ensured that the cursor is always in the visible area when typing by automatically scrolling to its position. Ticket

  • Newly created objects now open in full-page view by default.

  • Drag and drop while scrolling on desktop devices now supports a smoother scrolling experience when dragging the selected blocks up or down in the scroll container. Ticket

  • The option to open a PDF via the system (browser or system PDF viewer) has been added to the floating viewer toolbox.

  • Desktop only: When in the object type dashboard or collection, Cmd-N now directly creates an object depending on that context. Cmd-U in contrast will always open the menu to pick a specific object type.

  • The following shortcuts have been added:

    • ‘Fn + ←’: scroll to top of document
    • ‘Fn + →’: scroll to bottom of document
    • ‘Fn + ↑’: scroll one page up
    • ‘Fn + ↓’: scroll one page down
  • Better display of errors when uploading an image failed, including a retry button and a button to quickly delete failed images.

Fix for zoom level persistence

This is a small but important fix many users have complained about. The selected zoom level of the desktop app should now persist properly and remain consistent! Ticket & Ticket

Our desktop app on Windows is now signed

This should resolve false positive reports from virus scanners and a large number of installation issues. Ticket

Maintenance bot on the feedback board

We introduced a bot on the feedback board to perform maintenance tasks.

  • The bot automatically assigns a category to every post if it is not already set. This way we have a better insight into the distribution of bugs, improvements, and feature requests.

  • The bot automatically closes old issues. We’re in the process of getting ahead of our backlog. If one of your tickets gets closed, please add it to a bigger existing ticket or create a new one.

  • The bot also moves posts in progress back to open if we’re not actively working on them. This should improve transparency on what we’re currently working on.

That’s still not all! You can read about all the other improvements and fixes in the changelog below.

✨ Improvements

  • We changed the order of tags and object type labels for the list view. The object type label now comes last for better readability.

  • When viewing multiple objects in the preview modal, there is now an indicator of the current index in addition to the total count of items. Ticket

  • The month selection in the month view of the daily note is now being displayed again. Ticket

  • The flow of the ‘Open in Capacities’ functionality of the web extension has been improved. Ticket

  • Mobile-only: Replaced download icon with share icon on mobile devices in the floating toolbox (e.g. for PDFs).

🐛 Fixes

  • Removed flickering of the editing panel when dragging to select blocks.

  • When writing: scroll block back into view when the cursor is leaving the visible area.

  • Queries with constraints on displaying either only blocks or only objects now work as expected again

  • The functionality of the web extension has been restored. This has affected some users who were not previously signed in and then installed the extension. Ticket

  • Large numbers in the ‘stats’ section of the object sidebar now also use the same thousands separator that is set in the settings. Ticket

  • The paragraph counter in the object sidebar ‘stats’ section of an object now reflects the correct number of paragraphs.

  • The layout problem of the formula editor in the table block has been fixed.

  • The navigation shortcuts of the PDF viewer (arrow left/right) are now only captured in the right situations. Ticket

  • Clicking on the object of a block reference opens it only once instead of several times. Ticket

  • The statistics for the downloaded media in the ‘Offline & Sync’ section of the settings will now show accurate information. Ticket
